When imaginative director Charlotte Simpson and her partner, Gavin, took on the remodelling of their very first home, a Victorian balcony in southeast London, they started with the cooking area. With a manhole in the center of the flooring, a corrugated plastic roofing system, and waste pipes straight through the middle of the space, the cooking area was the apparent beginning point. Dealing with Darren Oldfield Architects, they incorporated classic motivation from hotel interiors, antique potting sheds, and Victorian butcher stores.
