WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A White Home evaluation on Monday suggested that the FBI’s capability to carry out non-national security questions under the Foreign Intelligence Monitoring Act’s Area 702 be eliminated as part of reforms targeted at getting the law reauthorized.
The evaluation performed for the White Home by the President’s Intelligence Board of advisers suggested that Chief law officer Merrick Garland “get rid of FBI’s authority to carry out questions for proof of a non-national security-related criminal activity in its Area 702 information.”
” FBI’s usage of Area 702 must be restricted to foreign intelligence functions just and FBI workers must get extra training on what foreign intelligence involves,” the evaluation stated.
