A report provided to the Washington state Legislature discovered that individuals of color and those of low socioeconomic status normally stay underrepresented amongst participants to jury summons, the state courts revealed in a news release last month.
Washington state legislators passed a costs in 2021 that needed the Administrative Workplace of the Courts to offer “all courts with an electronic group study for jurors who start a jury term,” with the goal of gathering information on race, ethnic background, age, sex, work status, academic achievement and earnings. The concern main to the study was whether the jurors were representative of the county populations where they were picked.
