For a contemporary Cape Cod in Morristown, New Jersey, designer Heidi Woodman conjured a cooking area that is equivalent parts “warm, comfortable, and friendly, yet still cool and existing,” she states. Woodman welcomes natural products, such as Zellige tiles “for the layers of depth and measurement it supply,” white oak “since it’s so flexible when it concerns tailoring the stain color,” and highly veined statuary marble that functions as art. Patinated knobs from Rocky Mountain Hardware, traditional counter stools from Roberta Schilling, and a ribbed glass and strong brass chandelier from Lucent Lightshop include touches of downplayed drama.

On the waterside in Cape Cod, designer Liz Caan worked together with Boston’s Catalano Architects to produce a household’s relaxing trip trip. The plain kitchen area, which opens onto a patio area with a fireplace, swimming pool, and extra cooking location, is “suggested for a houseful of grownups and kids all summer season long, and all can have a seat at the island or the table,” Caan shares. Peter Dunham Home’s raffia counter stools include a natural texture and pattern to the airy interior, as does the Arabescato marble backsplash and counters from Marmi Natural Stone. Urban Electric pendants and a Knoll Saarinen Tulip table brought up to a banquette in a Mariaflora linen material keep the interior’s hushed tone. “The concept was to keep it calm and tidy, so we didn’t sidetrack from the ocean views,” Caan states.
