Expect you see a staff member entered work at 8:30 a. When you inspect the staff member’s timecard (virtual or in paper) at the end of the day, nevertheless, you see that the staff member put down that they began work at 8a.
Can you unilaterally “right” the time card?
That concern was the topic of an outstanding post of CBIA’s Diane Mokriski that was just recently flowed
Diane notes that while companies have a responsibility to keep “precise, readable records”, that’s not completion of the story.
As she keeps in mind:
The Connecticut Department of Labor will just accept edits to timecards– whether cross-outs or notations of various time entries– if initialed by the staff member. The very same guideline uses to ‘fill-ins’ of missing out on time card punches; a company might not write-in missing out on entries unless the staff member initials the entry.
I advise the complete post to you together with a terrific video wrap-up from a 2022 HR Conference by the CBIA.
The CBIA releases various “HR Hotline” posts throughout the year; they are a terrific resource for little to mid-size companies and respond to a number of problems that occur in useful convenient methods.
