Now I get all this "waiting for the full moon" business from other night photographers. Of course I always essentially got it. But I'd never experienced it.
Moon schmoon I've always thought. But that was when I lived near the city. And that's where I'd always shot. The city's natural state is one that lights the way for its millions of inhabitants. The country isn't so worried about that. And it's that city lighting which makes interesting night photography (without a moon) possible. Or at least abundant.
I think one needs to dig deeper for good night photography in the country, at least without the moon. As I discovered tonight on my first night photography venture in my new home town.
Got a couple though. And frankly I was glad just to get out at all. Now bring on that warm weather.
And that full moon.
