Not-Quite-Night - August 23, 2005

The days are getting shorter. And it occurs to me that night shots are something I may well want to get more comfortable with. So tonight I went out and made a start.

For my first night out, I went and took a bunch of shots which, ordinarily, I probably wouldn't seek out. A little on the cliche side for me. Blurred water. Long headlight streaks. The lights of office buildings. Seen it all before. But for a first time out, it seemed like a good place to start.

So this shot... Again, a little cliche. And too busy. But kinda nice, actually.

I'll say it right now: I'm going to post a slightly different version of this exact same photo tomorrow. I'm forced to admit that I like it better than this one, even though I didn't want to. And I do like this one.

If nothing else, tonight was a good time to experiment a little. To get my feet wet doing something I haven't done before. For that, it was well worth the effort. Unfortunately, one of the other things it also proved is that if I'm going to do this sort of photography, I really, REALLY need a better tripod.
